The Story Behind the Design

Selfie With Flowers Chapter 2 Design - Kaya Sylvester
Selfie With Flowers — Chapter 2

The very next day after the flea market flowers — it was Kaya’s birthday.

Sylvester had taken leave months in advance, circling the day with quiet anticipation. He had no idea if Kaya would take the day off or power through it at work, but either way, he was ready.

He had mapped out gifts, surprises, and backup plans. What mattered most was making her feel loved — however the day unfolded.

Kaya chose to work.

Still, after seeing how her face lit up from the flowers the day before, Sylvester wanted to give her a little more. He had never been someone who believed in spending money on flowers — but somehow, when it came to her, that logic dissolved.

Making her smile was worth everything.

That morning, he went to the florist and handpicked each bloom. No pre-made bundles — just a vibrant bouquet crafted petal by petal. Then ice cream cake collected from Ben & Jerry’s. Coffee flavour — she loves it. Gifts wrapped personally by hand. Cards written in his own words.

By early afternoon, he was suited up, bouquet and cake in hand, walking into Kaya’s office building.

He waited for the exact time of her birth — not a minute too early — before ‘storming’ into her office and greeting her with a bold, “Happy Birthday!” in front of all her colleagues. The cake, the handwritten cards, the gifts — they were part of the moment.

But the flowers — they hit differently.

She looked at them in awe and asked, “How did you know these are the type of flowers I like? The colours, everything…”

He smiled. He just knew.

Work kept her too busy to take photos that day, but a few days later, when she finally found a quiet moment, she snapped a selfie with the bouquet — full of colour, full of life, full of love.

That photo became this design.

Because sometimes, the right moment isn’t planned — it’s created. It’s showing up, dressing up, and lighting up someone’s whole world. And sometimes, it’s a bouquet that says everything your words can’t.
