The Mermaid
The Story Behind the Design
This design captures the heart of it all — a memory full of color, laughter, and the kind of spark you never forget. It was, without question, one of the most magical moments Kaya and Sylvester ever shared.
It happened on a blazing sunny afternoon at Mission Bay, just before summer slipped away. Kaya had invited Sylvester out — no plans, no expectations. Just sun, sea, and the feeling of something good about to happen.
After a swim, she lay back on the sand, sunlight dancing across her skin, completely at ease.
With a sudden rush of playfulness, Sylvester began piling sand over her legs. But this wasn’t just any beach moment — something sparked. He saw a picture in his mind.
Bit by bit, he sculpted the sand into a mermaid tail around Kaya. And when he looked up, she wasn’t just his partner on the beach anymore — she was a mythical beauty come to life. A mermaid. His mermaid.
They laughed. They looked at each other like the world had melted away. It was romantic. It was fun. It was everything.
A moment so effortless and full of joy, it felt like it had been written by the sun itself.
This design is more than a drawing — it’s a celebration of that kind of magic. The kind that radiates joy, love, and imagination.
It’s about presence. It’s about play. It’s about the freedom to create something beautiful from nothing but a handful of sand and a lot of love.
Like every piece in the Kaya Sylvester collection, this one doesn’t just carry a memory — it beams with it.
It lives. It breathes. It sparks something electric in the heart.
Because sometimes, love is a tide — rising without warning, sculpting something timeless in the sand, then leaving its mark long after the waves retreat.
